"My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved."
- Psalm 62:5-6
How wonderful it is to have a Savior we can turn to and pour out our hearts when we are overwhelmed! I recently had a discussion with a friend about God's goodness. We talked about accepting the bad things that happen in each of our lives and trusting God's goodness in the midst of it.
Sometimes God may allow trials to come so he can strengthen us or test us. Other times we must suffer the consequence of sin we have committed. Though God will forgive us when we confess sin and ask forgiveness, there is still a penalty. There is also the effect of sin on our world as a whole. It brings death, corruption, and pain.
We will all face circumstances in our lives at some point that leave us struggling to understand. We might even question God. Why must friends and loved ones suffer disease such as cancer? Why do innocent children have to suffer because of someone else' horrible choices? Does God really care about our burdens and sorrows?
I have grappled with these questions. Let me tell you that many times God never revealed the reasons behind my circumstances. Sometimes He did, many times I could look back and see growth in my life that was a direct result of suffering. I've learned may lessons that were painful but precious. God has drawn me closer and I've really felt His love during some of my hardest days. But still, there are things I just can't understand, but I accept it.
He's shown me His faithfulness many times. He asks me to trust Him even when I don't have an answer. If I did have all the answers it really wouldn't be trusting, now would it?
I've chosen to accept that God is in control and He won't always calm my storm, but He'll never let me walk through it alone.
He has promised to never leave me nor forsake me; Hebrews 13:5
He promises to work things out and use them for my good even when bad things happen; Romans 8:28
He will give me beauty for ashes; Isaiah 61:3
My prayer for fellow Christians is that they will cling to God when trials come. Don't push away, please don't be bitter. Ask God to mend you when you heart is broken, and turn to other Christians for encouragement and support.
Focus on Christ,
